The metaphor of crucifixion and resurrection points to the death (recognizing, embracing and integrating) of the ego so the eternal Self can be risen/awakened. It’s the death of death itself, for only the belief in death keeps death (the ego) alive.

Each time we think or speak of our Love “for” (or “of”) someone, we could experiment with omitting the “because.” Instead of I love XXX, followed by a long and admiring list of, They are so…, we could simply try on, I love XXX. Period. We could experiment with omitting their qualities, whether perceived as “superficial” (beautiful, talented, smart, accomplished…) or “deep” (wise, kind, caring, evolved, soulful…) We could experiment with omitting their personality, their beliefs and values, their accomplishments and achievements, their circumstances, their life story… And we could get in touch with the choice-less-ness, the condition-less-ness, the “I-can’t-help-it-ness” of our Love (for them). Then we’ll know Love for the first time. Without armor or defense, condition or qualification. We’ll know Love as our very nature, independent of “the other.” We’ll know ourselves as the source of Love, and Love as the source of us. By dropping the qualities of the other, the “you” falls away from “I love you.” By recognizing the choice-less-ness, condition-less-ness, and I-can’t-help-it-ness, the “I” falls away too. And what remains, is only Love. We become naked and liberated in Love, freed of the burden of reason and justification. We see that “because” is the attachment, the bondage, keeping us believing that without the other and their acting this way or that way, we wouldn’t be (in) Love. We see that Love just is, no matter what.

There may arise a mental belief that if the action is all there is and there’s no doer involved, then there’s no ‘ownership’ of the action.

When action arises always and inevitably as inspired calling, we’re so completely One with it, that we are the action. I am it. There’s no ‘me’ that exists separately from it. So, in a paradox, there is complete ownership of the action in the only way that matters. (Observe any true athlete or dancer and see how they are the movement — there’s no doer making movements!)  (more…)

Recognizing Love

While we may want to spend most of our (life)time around those who give us empathy and compassion and encouragement and affection and loyalty and solidarity for our stories and identities, within the depths of our being, we are ultimately most trusting of those who can see us beyond our stories and identities. Something about them rings profoundly true, even if we feel very uncomfortable or even terrified. Those who see us beyond these self-imposed limitations for the expansive essence that we are, the infinite entirety that we are, and so, appear to not “meet us where we are.” (In Truth, they’re always meeting us where we truly are, in-and-as the Self, but so long as we are not meeting our Self, they don’t appear to either!) In the depths of our being, we all recognize this as Love. For want of more “journey” and “experiences,” we may reserve such a connection/reflection for “later,” procrastinating and postponing (or even omitting) it as delayed gratification, but we know deep within that these rare beings are the ones who eternally and unconditionally hold space for us, in Love and Truth, for our ultimate and only destination — our whole, glorious, limitless and infinite Self.

What better way to realize universal Love than to love one person, uniquely and singularly, in flesh-and-blood, with utter and complete ego/self-dissolving devotion! Until then, until every aspect of the manufactured self has been mirrored and stripped naked, until one has looked into every nook and cranny to see in plain sight the darkest inclinations and subtlest transgressions… and allowed them to be hugged and dissolved in the embrace of the brightest flames of Self, subsumed by unconditional Love (for everything that dances within, and thereby without!), until one loves oneself and ‘the other’ so wholly that there is only One-Self —Yog(a)— and One movement happening, of Love, radiant as a beacon in service to all… until one has turned inside out from matter to Light, what appears to be “love” is still only emotional affect and attachment, and what appears to be “love of all” or “love of humanity” that so passionately drives one’s endeavors, is still only protective armor, a comfortable hiding place. Divine Love in the uniquely human makes a true yogi — One-in-Union. Even the traditional ascetic’s “singular love of god” doesn’t quite get to it, as the divine human will reflect the demons within that the human god will not! 🙂

Much as we’ve heard it said otherwise, and much as it may seem impossible to fathom or accept, there’s only one person in every relationship: You! Your connection with “another” is a function of the connection (or separation) between you and You! It is a function of your alignment with Self / Love as you behold the other, and make them the focus of your attention. (And so also for “them.”) So, your relationship with another is entirely free of theirs with you!!  (more…)

When we’ve become engaged in a fight (resisting/ convincing/ arguing/ opining/ debating…) with someone or something, we just became their equal, their match… in misalignment. And there’s no genuine ‘win’ in such a match, even if it appears that one of the two concedes!

In alignment with Self/Love, we do ‘equal’ another, we simply align as One!! (more…)
